No See Ems - Because We Cannot See THEM, an Annoying Travel Insect

Ceratopogonidae is the technical word for "no see ems," a type of insect that attacks our ankles, is an unacceptable hotel guest, that needs evicted

Rodentia is an order of mammals also known as rodents, characterised by two continuously growing incisors in the upper and lower jaws which must be kept short by gnawing.

Forty percent of mammal species are rodents, and they are found in vast numbers on all continents other than Antarctica. Common rodents include mice, rats, squirrels, porcupines, beavers, chipmunks, guinea pigs, and voles. Rodents have sharp incisors that they use to gnaw wood, break into food, and bite predators. Most eat seeds or plants, though some have more varied diets. Some species have historically been pests, eating seeds stored by people and spreading disease.

The name comes from the Latin word rodere "to gnaw".

Insects are a class within the arthropods that have a chitinous exoskeleton, a three-part body (head, thorax, and abdomen), three pairs of jointed legs, compound eyes, and two antennae. They are among the most diverse group of animals on the planet and include more than a million described species and represent more than half of all known living organisms. The number of extant species is estimated at between six and ten million, and potentially represent over 90% of the differing metazoan life forms on Earth. Insects may be found in nearly all environments, although only a small number of species occur in the oceans, a habitat dominated by another arthropod group, the crustaceans.

Nopikex works great when being bitten around the ankles by insects you can't see. You can buy it in Colombia and Panama and probably other Latin American Countries. Sometimes these insects are called chitres, in Texas chiggers, and in Florida no-see-ems. Nopikex is an insecticidal soap that comes in a small black box. You simply wet the soap with water and apply in the areas where you are being bitten. These invisible insects are more prominent when near vegetation and after a rain. I found that this worked when Off and other spray-ons failed. The active ingredient is Deet - maybe just a higher rate than Off or the other products.
